This method of Yoga was created in 1936 by the Hindu master BKS Iyengar, and it focuses primary on the health of the body, the balance of the mind and the peace of the spirit. Iyengar says that thought the health of the body (unbloqued, flexible and familiar) you can reach the mind and its deepest meditative aspects. It is a Yoga practice with precision, technical alignment, flexibility and concentration. This alignment of bones and articulations guides a better balance, physical strength, better circulation, brings an energetic flow, balances the body and the mind. The breathing is an art, sweet and soft at the beginning, consciously helping the practitioner reach peace and concentration.
Thinking that anybody could have the benefits of the practice, no matter age or physical condition, Iyengar designed props (wood blocks, ropes, cousins, chairs and mats) so all students (pregnant, seniors, etc) could get the best of the practice.
Props are useful to fix a physical defects, or to stretch That part of the body That need to be more elongated, for a longer period of time. Working this way the alignment between muscle and bone starts to improve.
